I had always been drawn to the intersection of design, architecture, and social justice. So, when I was approached to design a shelter for a symbol of the city, I knew that I had an opportunity to create something truly special.

I spent months researching the history and culture of the city, studying its architecture, and speaking with community members about their experiences and needs. And finally, after countless sketches and models, I arrived at the design for a transparent inflatable canopy/pavilion that would serve as a safe space for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The structure was inspired by the city’s rich history of glass and steel, with a sleek, modernist aesthetic that was both inviting and unapologetically queer. And with its transparent design, it was meant to be an open invitation for all citizens of the city to come and have discussions about what it meant to create a truly inclusive society.

When the structure was finally completed, I stood back and marveled at its beauty. It was a testament to the power of design to create change, to bring people together, and to create a more just and equitable world.

And as the months went on, I watched as the shelter became a beloved symbol of the city, a place where people from all walks of life could come and feel safe, seen, and valued. It was a beacon of hope in a world that often felt divided and unjust.

And I knew, as I looked out at the canopy/pavilion, that this was just the beginning. There was so much more work to be done, so much more beauty and love to be created. But with each new project, each new design, I knew that I was helping to shape a world that was more just, more inclusive, and more beautiful than the one we had inherited. And that was a thought that filled me with hope and joy.
